Student Leadership

At St Paul’s Catholic Primary School, our Student Leadership Development Program is deeply rooted in our mission to create a vibrant community where every child finds meaning, purpose, and a sense of belonging. Guided by our vision of a faithful and compassionate community, we believe that every student possesses unique potential and is called to be a "Bearer of Christ’s Love."

In alignment with the CEDoW Leadership Framework, we view leadership not as a badge or a title, but as a commitment to spirituality, community, service, relationship, and the growth of others.

A New Model: Leading Together

We have moved away from traditional "School Captain" roles to an inclusive whole-cohort leadership model. At St Paul’s, we believe that leadership shouldn't be reserved for a selected few—instead, the entire Year 6 cohort serves as our school’s leadership team.

By transitioning to this distributive model, we ensure:

Inclusivity & Equity: We value the diverse gifts of every student. Every Year 6 child is given the platform to lead, ensuring no student feels sidelined or discouraged by narrow selection criteria.
Building Capacity: Leadership is a skill to be practiced. We intentionally foster these skills in every student, preparing them to be confident builders towards a connected and peaceful world.
Authentic Witness: Our model reflects the Gospel values of Justice and Compassion. By inviting all students to contribute to the common good, we model "right relationships" and servant leadership.

Student Leadership in Action

To ensure every Year 6 student is actively engaged, we provide structured active role descriptions and mentorship through interest-based groups. These teams place student voices at the heart of our school's decision-making.

Inspired by the example of Jesus, our students use their God-given gifts to serve our community through the following Leadership Groups:

IT & Innovation	Leading the way in contemporary learning, assisting peers with technology, and promoting positive digital citizenship.
Social Justice & Mission	Planning events that reflect peace and stewardship, while driving our mission through community outreach and service.
Wellbeing & Peer Support	Mentoring younger students and championing our Positive Behaviours for Learning (PB4L) framework to ensure a safe, welcoming school.
Community & Stewardship	Strengthening our bond with the local Parish and Moss Vale community, and leading environmental initiatives that honor our Earth.
House Groups	To support the running of carnivals and our feast day celebrations living out the charism of our school.

Growth, Formation, and Celebration

Leadership is a journey of continual growth. Throughout the year, our Year 6 leaders will participate in formation sessions with classroom teachers and the school leadership team.

Our students will:

Set personal and team leadership goals.
Receive regular, constructive feedback.
Celebrate their collective achievements as a unified team.

Through this program, we are not just teaching students how to lead; we are helping them grow in faith, learning, and wellbeing, ensuring they leave St Paul’s ready to make a positive impact on the world.
